Power Platform DLP without killing maker velocity

Governance and speed are not opposites. A tiered environment strategy lets makers move fast while keeping production safe.

The false tradeoff

"Governance slows us down" is almost always a symptom of a single, over-restrictive environment shared by everyone. Tiered environments fix this.

Three tiers

  • **Personal / sandbox** — broad connectors, no production data
  • **Department** — vetted connectors, real but non-sensitive data
  • **Production** — locked DLP, change control, monitored

Makers prototype in tier 1, promote to tier 2, and only mature solutions reach tier 3. Velocity stays high; risk stays bounded.

What to monitor

  • Connector usage by environment
  • Solution promotion frequency (a healthy signal of maker momentum)
  • DLP violations attempted (a leading indicator of training gaps)
